Book Review: Who moved my cheese?: An A-Mazing way to deal with change in your work and in your life by Spencer, Johnson

I wish to share a review of this wonderful book, that i recently read in my library. The book is very captivating to read which makes you think and introspect into one's own life experiences and your attitude towards the same. I too, recalled back my life and compared with the four characters of this book.

The story of Who Moved My Cheese? was created by Dr. Spencer Johnson to help him deal with a difficult change in his life. It showed him how to take his changing situation seriously but not take himself so seriously.

Spencer Johnson, M.D.,is an international bestselling author whose books help millions of people discover simple truths they can use to have healthier lives with more success and less stress.

It is the amusing and enlightening story of four imaginary characters-the mice: "Sniff" and "Scurry" and the Littlepeople: "Hem" and "Haw" who live in a maze and always look for cheese to nourish and make them happy. The Cheese is a metaphor for what you want in life, like good job, lovely relationship, money, health and peace of mind. The maze is like a organisation where you work, your family and community you live in. And last Cheese is the satisfaction and your desires, which keeps on moving and changing. Each of us has our own idea of what cheese is and we pursue it because we believe it makes us happy. If we get it, we often become attached to it. And if we lose it, or it's taken away, it can be traumatic. The whole story revolves around these elements but carries a deep message to the reader of the book.

The reader always introspect himself/herself while reading the book. How do we react to the particular situation of life. Sometimes we may act like Sniff, who sniffs out change early or Scurry, who scurries into action, or Hem who denies and resist change as he fears it will lead to something worse, or Haw who learns to adapt in time when he sees changing can lead to something better!

Whatever parts of us we choose to use, we all share something in common: a need to find our way in the Maze and succeed in changing times.

The book provides the real-life examples from the renowned personalities, for whom the story of cheese is like life changing experience.

The book is evolved in three sections, In the first, A Gathering, former classmates talk at a class reunion about trying to deal with changes happening in their lives.

The second section is The story of Who Moved My Cheese?, which is core of the book. In the story you will see the two mice do better when they are faced with change because they keep things simple, while the two Littlepeople's complex brains and human emotions complicate things. It has not that mice are smarter. We all know people are more intelligent than mice.

However,as you watch what the four characters do, and realize both the mice and the littlepeople represent parts of ourselves-the simple and the complex-you can see it would be to our advantage to do the simple things that work when things change.

In the third section, A Discussion, people discuss what the The Story meant to them and how they are going to use it in their work and in their lives.

Everyone knows that not all change is good or even necessary. But in a world that is constantly changing, it is to our advantage to learn how to adapt and enjoy something better.

MOVE WITH THE CHEESE AND ENJOY IT!

DISCOVER THE SECRET FOR YOURSELF AND LEARN HOW TO DEAL WITH CHANGE, SO THAT YOU SUFFER LESS AND ENJOY MORE SUCCESS IN YOUR WORK AND LIFE.

I recommend everyone to read this book. You will enjoy and help to know yourself better way.

Independence Day 2020: Where the mind is without fear( Rabindra Nath Tagore)

Independence Day of India, 15 August 2020: History, Significance ...

India is celebrating its 74th year of independence this time and we as Indians must be proud of our progress in all these years. A country that survived a tempestuous struggle for freedom that lasted for about 90 years from 1857 to 1947, has come a long way to an era where every spirit is free to be themselves. We must, today, unite and celebrate the day together to sound as one voice that is powerful and progressive, and must pledge to protect the integrity of our country.

On this special day, I love to read this poem" Where the mind is without fear"  by Rabindra Nath Tagore, which holds the true meaning of freedom and carries the message to be truthful and focused on the our goal with our head high to achieve success.

Where the mind is without fear.

Almost half a century before India attained Independence, Tagore here yearns for the “heaven of freedom.” The verse continues to exhort people—particularly in conflict zones across the world—to seek fearless truth, progressive thoughts and actions, and to stand up and see the world as one, undivided by borders or “narrow domestic walls.” Tagore stood for living life to the full and not for any renunciation of the world.

Freedom in mind, Faith in our heart, Memories in our souls. Let’s salute the Nation on Independence Day!

Exploration in to International Children's Digital Library: What is it store for you?

I wish to share with you all the amazing digital library for e-books, when we are missing our visit to our library and reading the literature of our choice, but in the 21st century learning  environment, we can access our favorite books any time with just the click of the mouse. You can refresh yourself after studying hard and read at your own pace. So don't feel disappointed
for closed gates of physical libraries. Now so much is available in the virtual space also.

The mission of the International Children's Digital Library Foundation (ICDL Foundation) is to support the world's children in becoming effective members of the global community - who exhibit tolerance and respect for diverse cultures, languages and ideas -- by making the best in children's literature available online free of charge.

The Foundation pursues its vision by building a digital library of outstanding children's books from around the world and supporting communities of children and adults in exploring and using this literature through innovative technology designed in close partnership with children for children.

A fundamental principle of the Foundation is that children and their families deserve to have access to the books of their culture, as well as the majority culture, regardless of where they live. According to a paper published in 2005 by the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in preparation for the second meeting on the World Summit on the Information Society, "Denial to access to information in one's mother tongue is equivalent to a denial of a human right." The report also concludes, "In terms of pedagogy, how do children learn best?  In their mother tongue." It has vast collection in different languages which has international scope.

The ICDL is a rich resource which can be used in a wonderfully wide range of situations by children, parents, teachers, librarians and others from all walks of life.  Children can expand upon the stories to create games; parents can extract themes to help explain important lessons; teachers can utilize the multicultural nature of the collection to teach languages; librarians can enrich community outreach programs with tales from around the world and; of course, anyone can just open a book to read for pleasure.

This digital library provides the very easy and effective search interface, where you can very easily search the books of your choice and also as per your age. You must try to explore this and enjoy the world of literature at your home.

The simplest way to use the ICDL is to just read a book.  Pick one of the featured books from the home page, search books using Simple Search – or the Advanced Search or Location Search at the bottom of the Simple Search page.  Then read away – for free and anonymously.  Or you can create an account to keep a bookshelf of books you like and set various personal preferences.

It's World Book Day (April 23, 2020) : Enjoy the magic of books!

World Book Day 2020: The joy of discovering Amar Chitra Katha ...

"Books have the unique ability both to entertain and to teach. They are at once a means of exploring realms beyond our personal experience through exposure to different authors, universes and cultures, and a means of accessing the deepest recesses of our inner selves."
— Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO, on the occasion of World Book and Copyright Day 2020

How World Book Day came into origin?

World Book Day is an annual event celebrated on 23 April all over the world since 1995. Recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), this day aims to promote reading, publishing and copyright. It’s also a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and (most importantly) it’s a celebration of reading. In fact, it’s the biggest celebration of its kind, designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, and marked in over 100 countries all over the world and  recognize the scope of books - a link between the past and the future, a bridge between generations and across cultures.

23 April is a symbolic date in world literature. It is the date on which several prominent authors, William Shakespeare, Miguel de Cervantes and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega all died. This date was a natural choice for UNESCO's General Conference, held in Paris in 1995, to pay a world-wide tribute to books and authors on this date, encouraging everyone to access books.
By championing books and copyright, UNESCO stands up for creativity, diversity and equal access to knowledge, with the work across the board – from the Creative Cities of Literature network to promoting literacy and mobile learning and advancing Open Access to scientific knowledge and educational resources. With the active involvement of all stakeholders: authors, publishers, teachers, librarians, public and private institutions, humanitarian NGOs and the mass media, and all those who feel motivated to work together in this world celebration of books and authors, World Book and Copyright Day has become a platform to rally together millions of people all around the world.
Why reading is more important than ever?

April 2014 Newsletter | Books, Book quotes

More than ever, at a time where most of the schools around the world are closed and people are having to limit their time spent outside, the power of books should be leveraged to combat isolation, reinforce ties between people, expand our horizons, while stimulating our minds and creativity.
During the month of April and all year round, it is critical to take the time to read on your own or with your children. It is a time to celebrate the importance of reading, foster children's growth as readers and promote a lifelong love of  literature and integration into the world of work.
Through reading and the celebration of World Book and Copyright Day, 23 April, we can open ourselves to others despite distance, and we can travel thanks to imagination. By creating a sense of community through the shared readings and the shared knowledge, readers around the world can connect and mutually help curb loneliness. The aim of the event is to encourage more children to discover the pleasures of books and reading by providing them with the opportunity to have a book of their own.
Our research shows that good school libraries can have an important impact on pupil development, especially on their reading for pleasure habits. They focusing on supporting children in how to choose the right book, sharing reading initiative ideas to engage the whole school community in reading and supporting teachers in celebrating reading in the classroom.
